Got here Friday around noon. Settled into Indian Creek Campground. Its a primitive site 8 miles south of Mammoth. In the 3 days I’ve been here I’ve seen 9 separate bears. All black, no grizzlys. Lots of buffalos, a few elk, few Antelope, few Mule Deer and a moose. So not too bad. Today I was in Lamar Valley and tomorrow (on the way out)Hayden Valley to look for wolves. All my visits and I’ve never seen any wolves.

Just a ton of bears. One must have been having a hard day as he just plopped down by a tree and took a nap. I know that feeling. I’ll also mention that the pic on the left is my first ever with two bears in the same frame. A milestone for a picture taker I guess.

Getting around the park on the moto is an absolute gamechanger. I can see so much more and cover so much more ground. And getting close to 60 mpg has me saving at least $100 bucks so far. A bit of a bummer as a storm rolled thru late Saturday aft and I just made it back to the van and had to spend the rest of the day there.
Today I rode over 100 miles going thru Lamar Valley all the way to Cooke City. That’s actually in Montana. Then back to the park. I stopped at a couple bear jams in the Valley but everyone had spotting scopes and I did not have the equipment to see whatever they were looking at so I just moved on.

I’ve already loaded up the moto and will pull out of the campground tomorrow morn as early as I can. But I won’t move until light. I will head thru Hayden Valley for one last shot at seeing a Grizz. I saw two when I was here in 2024. I’ve almost given up on seeing a wolf but you need to be set up before daybreak to get those pics.
So I start heading back to Wisco tomorrow but not without a few days in the Badlands\Black Hills. I hope to moto the Needles Hiway. Hang out in Keystone and Deadwood. Two of my favorite towns. I should be back by Friday the 26th. Right now my plan is to hang around Wisconsin for two weeks. I hope to get in a little MTBing in those days. Maybe a trip up to MQT. Then around July 16th Im on the road again.
Destination unknown.
