About

Dan’s Vanlife

I swapped a desk for desert skies, cruising the Southwest in my trusty Promaster home. Along with my MTB and trusty KTM I am heading out for some adventure before I’m too old.

A Ram ProMaster van tucked among tall, dark green pines at a secluded Colorado boondocking spot, with a compact camp setup beside it. A small, lightweight folding table holds a metal camping mug and a simple propane stove, while a closed cooler rests on pine needles nearby. The van’s side door is ajar, showing a hint of warm interior lighting. The scene is lit by the soft blue hour just after sunset, with the sky fading from deep blue to violet and the van’s interior casting a warm, golden glow. Photographic realism from a slightly elevated angle, balanced composition, and crisp detail create a serene, playful sense of off-grid freedom.
A cozy nighttime van life scene in the Utah desert, captured from outside the Ram ProMaster looking in through the open side door. Inside, warm fairy lights trace the ceiling, reflecting softly off smooth wooden cabinets and a neatly made bed with a colorful southwestern-patterned blanket. On a small built-in counter, a compact camping lantern glows next to a steaming metal mug, subtle vapor visible in the cool air. The surrounding desert is dark, with only the faint silhouette of distant buttes under a star-filled sky. Photographic realism, low-angle perspective, and strong contrast between warm interior and cool exterior create a playful yet serene off-grid camping atmosphere.

Retired Roads, New Horizons

I’m Dan, a retired guy roaming the West in a DIY Promaster, chasing quiet trailheads and starry boondocks. Here I share build notes, camp logs, and lessons learned—start with my Colorado and Utah trip posts.

A minimalist top-down view of a boondocking map spread out on a rustic wooden van table, with key locations in Colorado and Utah highlighted in bright marker colors. Beside the map sit a weathered metal compass, a small stack of national park passes, and a smartphone displaying an offline camping app. Soft, diffused midday light filters in from an unseen van window, creating gentle shadows and subtle reflections on the phone screen. Photographic realism with sharp focus throughout and an organized, rule-of-thirds composition gives the scene a playful yet practical mood, perfectly illustrating planning and route-finding for a detailed van life blog post.

Scroll through sunrise ridgelines, red rock canyons, and lonely forest roads—my favorite boondocking camps across Colorado and Utah, from alpine lakes above timberline to quiet desert washes where the only neighbors are ravens and saguaros.

The interior of a Ram ProMaster van transformed into a tiny rolling home, captured from the rear doors looking inward. Smooth, honey-toned wood paneling covers the walls and ceiling, with built-in storage, a compact stainless steel sink, and a plush mattress topped with colorful, mismatched pillows. A small plant hangs from a macramé holder, swaying gently. Soft morning sunlight pours in from open back doors, creating warm highlights on the wood grain and gentle shadows in the corners. Photographic realism, eye-level composition, and a shallow depth of field keep the foreground bed in sharp focus while the distant front cab blurs, creating a cozy, inviting, playful mood perfect for a van life blog about daily living.

Each photo is a waypoint from my Promaster logbook, taken off-grid where cell bars fade, campfires glow, and the Milky Way spills over the roof—fuel for planning your own Colorado and Utah backroad escapes.
